a tea ceremony performance
Elizabeth Pfeiffer, in preparation for her journey to Japan to study tea, hosted four tea ceremonies in February 2019. A team of artists and musicians created an environment of relaxation and meditation for the ceremonies. Patchwork fabric and dim lights covered the walls, meditation cushions laid atop of floor mats and rugs, plants lined the entry way, and live performance of flutes, bells, sound bowls, and percussion continuously played as Liz performed the ceremony of tea in front of a concave structure of wood pallets.
Two assistants were present each ceremony to help serve the large number of guests. Each guest was given matcha tea and a choice of traditional Japanese sweet.
